(January 17, 2025) President Biden today issued a statement in regard to the ongoing efforts to have the 28th Amendment become law. The Amendment reads: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. The MWHC pledges to continue to fight for finalizing the Equal Rights Amendment and for preserving the stories of the individuals (many no longer with us) who have fought for equal rights for over a century.

According to VoteEquality.org this amendment could impact some of today’s most challenging issues, including:

  • Gender discrimination by the government
  • Protections for LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Employment discrimination
  • Military handling of sexual assault and harassment
  • Equitable treatment and prosecution for rape
  • Law enforcement training to handle gender violence and crime
  • Unequal and discriminatory medical and safety research protocols
