The Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame was established by the Maryland Commission for Women and the Maryland Women’s Legislative Caucus in 1985 to honor women in our state who have made significant and lasting contributions to the arts, athletics, business, education, government, the humanities, human rights, law, medicine, philanthropy or science. Each year, organizations and individuals across the state are invited to submit nominations of historical and contemporary Maryland women whose achievements are of historic significance. Among those honored are legislators, political and social activists, scientists, medical professionals, educators, writers, spiritual and community leaders. Traditionally honorees are inducted into the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony in March at the Miller Senate Office Building. The biographies of all the honorees are posted at the Maryland State Archives website.
